The city of Saint-Ouen is located in north central France on the Seine River and is part of the Seine-Saint-Denis department. Saint-Ouen has a population of approximately 45,000 inhabitants and is one of the suburbs of Paris. Due to its location on the Seine River, Saint-Ouen is a central location for shipping and the main industries are the manufacturing of electrical equipment pharmaceuticals, metal products, and perfumes.

A popular attraction in Saint-Ouen is the Saint-Ouen Flea Market also known as aux Marche Puces de St Ouen. The flea market is one of the largest antique markets in the world with over 2000 vendors offering furniture, books, jewelry, art glass ware, and many other types of antiques and has been in operation since the Middle Ages.

For history buffs you can visit the nearby Place de la Bastille where a massive prison fortress once stood. There is also vaux-le-Vicomte which is an impressive castle which the predecessor to Versailles and the Musee Marmottan Monet which contains an impressive art collection by Monet, Degas, and Picasso. Nearby is the Cimetiere de Saint-Ouen which is an old Roman Catholic cemetery associated with Joan of Arc.

If you love the great outdoors you can visit the Parc des Buttes-Chaumont which is located in the northern part of Saint-Ouen and offers beautiful walking trails, reflective lakes, and waterfalls.

When you are finished sightseeing you can enjoy fine cuisine at Auberge Ravoux established in 1876 and made famous by Vincent Van Gogh who lived there during the last few months of his life. In the evening Saint-Ouen comes alive in the Flea Market district where there are many café concerts offering blues and jazz as well as the Theatre le Picolo which offers theatre productions in an old café where second hand flea market dealers and rag merchants once gathered.
