Located in the central part of France, Limoges is the capital of the Limousin region. As a city, Limoges is quite large and home to about 150,000 people. The city is best known for the enamels on copper, which it has inherited from the medieval period, the oak barrels used for Cgnac production, and the 19th century porcelain.

The City of Limoges, which is now considered a favorite destination for people visiting France, came into existence during first century BC. At that point, the location of the city was considered commercially viable, because it was positioned between two trade routes commonly used by the Romans.

The fate of Limoges, however, took a brighter turn after the discovery of a kind of clay called ‘Kaolin.’ This clay was first used to make, what is now known as, porcelain. The rise and growth of the porcelain industry has helped create the identity of Limoges on the world map forever. The city found international acclaim for the first time in the Parisian ‘World Fair’, where its porcelain works were displayed.

When it comes to weather, Limoges enjoys a more temperate climate than its southern French counterparts. While summer temperatures range from warm to lukewarm, winter temperatures vary between cool and cold. The city occasionally sees frost.

Among the several sites that visitors can frequent in the city, the most popular are the Crypt of Saint Martial, the cathedral of Saint Etienne, the botanical gardens, and the St Michel-des-Lions Church. The Crypt of Saint Martial was discovered during the 1960s and has remained a tourist attraction ever since. The Cathedral of Saint Etienne has a gothic structure and took 600 years for completion. The botanical gardens offer natural scenic beauty, and the stained windows created during the 16th century make the St Michel-des-Lions Church famous.
