Blois
The town of Blois is located in central France in Lorleanais on the Loire River and is the capital of the Loir-et-Cher department. Blois is considered one of the most historic towns in France and is known for its production of fine wines and brandy. Blois is also a primary commercial and industrial centre with a population of more than 55,000 inhabitants.

Blois was established during the 10th century when the famous counts of Blois rose to power as the feudal lords of France. The town went through a succession of counts until the last one handed possession to Louis, duc d'Orleans in 1397. Blois became the residence of Louis XII who established a Renaissance chateau in the town in 1498.

The chateau of Louis XII has become a notable attraction for visitors to Blois with each of the castle’s four wings reflecting different styles of architecture from different periods which range from the 13th century to the 1630s. The castle also is home to the Musee des Beaux-Arts.

Another primary attraction in Blois is the famous Maison de la Magie which is dedicated to the famous magician, Jean-Eugène Robert-Houdin and contains interactive exhibits which were invented by Houdin as well as a variety of magic shows. The famous escape artists Houdini named himself after Jean-Eugène Robert-Houdin.

A visit to Blois would not be complete without touring the beautiful Cathédrale St-Louis which is situated on a hill overlooking the town of Blois and contains an impressive view from the Gardens of the Bishops Palace which is nearby.

Blois also contains a lively nightlife in which visitors can enjoy the many fine restaurants and night clubs that are located in the centre of town along with many specialty shops and boutiques offering fine clothing and an assortment of luxury items.
