Angers
With history rooted in firebrand Celtic people who opposed the Roman invasion with all their might, today, Angers is one of the most beautiful cities in France. Angers offers an eclectic mix of interesting nightlife, rich culture, and amazing shopping opportunities to its visitors. It has a population of about 150, 000 people, and the region where it stands is referred to as Anjou in history.
The bustling, friendly city of Angers has long been called ‘Black Angers’ due to the stone and slate work, which has its roots in the ninth century. The city is widely appreciated for its architectural genius, the evidence of which are monuments like the Cathedral of Saint Maurice and the Castle of Angers. While the cathedral displays impressive twin structures, the castle, in all its vastness, houses 17 towers and is considered a great work of defense. The castle grounds, in the middle of a small but busy French city, are a serene place for someone to walk on a cool summer night.
Visitors traveling to Angers must make their way to famous museums, such as the Museum of Fine Arts, the Jean Lucrat Museum, and the Pince Museum. Founded in the 18th century, the Museum of Fine Arts displays works of great painters, such as Chardin, Boucher, Watteau, and Ingress. The Jean Lucrat Museum is famous for the ‘Le chat du Monde’ painting by Lucrat, which has been part of the museum since 1967. The Pince Museum houses some of the greatest artifacts from the Greek and Roman classical era.
The City of Angers, apart from being a cultural hub, offers several entertainment opportunities to its visitors. There are some well-known theaters in the area, such as Les Quatre Cent Coups and Gaumont Multiplexe. Around the area of Rue St. Laud, one can find a number of cafes and bars to spend the evening.
