Albi
The town of Albi is located in the southern part of France and is the capital of the Tarn department. Due to its location on the Tarn River, Albi is a primary commercial centre with the main industries being food processing, manufacturing of textiles, and glass works. Albi is an old Roman city of approximately 50,000 inhabitants and dates back to the 5th century.

Albi is a beautiful old city with interesting medieval architecture and Lanquedoc style old brick buildings. One of the primary points of interest in Albi is the Cathedral of Sainte-Cecile which was constructed beginning in 1282 and represents a huge fortress with an impressive bell tower and magnificent statues.

Albi is also the birthplace of the famous artist Toulouse-Lautrec. The Toulouse-Lautrec Museum which contains over 1000 works is housed in the Palais de la Berbie which was the Bishops Palace of Albi and one of the oldest castles in France.

Nearby is the Pont Vieux which is an old bridge constructed in 1035 and rests on eight arches. It is now refurbished with a brick façade and was reinforced with a drawbridge during the 14th century. Pont Vieux is still in use and is surrounded by interesting buildings which were constructed in the surrounding area.

If you wish to enjoy more of the interesting architecture of Albi you can walk around the La Veil Albi which offers an interesting view of the city’s old architecture as well as enjoy the hidden gardens walk and the L’Echappee Verte.

For shopping enthusiasts you can enjoy the many specialty boutiques and stores that offer high end items for every need and you will also find a variety of markets with different themes that held periodically throughout the year. There is also an interesting variety of events during the year such as the February Carnival and the July Pause Guitare and you can dine at a huge choice of restaurants that offer fine fare and local cuisine.
